Bupa and Turaco Join AKI as Membership Grows
Nairobi, March 2026 — The Association of Kenya Insurers has welcomed new members into its fold following the ratification of applications at its 39th Annual General Meeting held in March 2026.
Among the notable entrants are global medical insurer Bupa and pan-African micro insurer Turaco, signalling continued confidence in Kenya’s evolving insurance market.
Also admitted as members are Britam Microinsurance, Equity Health Insurance Company, and Equity General Insurance Company. With these additions, the Equity Group now offers a full spectrum of insurance solutions spanning life, general, and health insurance.
The inclusion of microinsurance players reflects the impact of recent regulatory developments aimed at expanding access to insurance. The introduction of microinsurance regulations in 2020 has created a distinct licensing framework, lowering barriers to entry and encouraging innovation in the development of affordable, targeted insurance products for underserved segments.
Following this expansion, AKI’s membership now stands at 52 insurance companies as full members and five reinsurance companies as associate members. Membership is reserved for companies licensed by the Insurance Regulatory Authority.
AKI continues to play a central role in advancing the industry by advocating on behalf of its members, promoting collaboration and self-regulation, conducting market research and data analysis, raising consumer awareness, and building capacity across the sector.
